Because
Editions

Created in 2005 by Emmanuel de Buretel (former CEO of EMI Europe, Virgin Music Publishing and founder of Delabel Publishing) with Michel Duval (former CEO of Delabel Publishing), Because Éditions has become one of the leading independent publishers in France in less than 15 years.

Because Éditions has proven its flair with prestigious signings such as Daft Punk, the Ed Banger catalogue (Justice, Sebastian, Breakbot), Selah Sue, Christine and the Queens, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Thomas Dutronc, Stromae, Les Rita Mitsouko, Manu Chao, and the acquisition of the catalogues of Claude François (“My Way”), Cerrone, NTM and Carla Bruni, as well as prominent urban music signings, including the Wati B catalogue (Gims, Dadju, Sexion d’Assaut), Vald, Heuss L’Enfoiré, Soolking, Kery James, Lacrim, Vegedream, Lartiste and Kaaris.

The publishing company made its mark by signing a number of international artists such as Metronomy, Electric Guest, Django Django, London Grammar and, more recently, Charlotte Dos Santos.

Harnessing the professional experience of its teams, who have worked in the industry for over 20 years, it has also been able to attract and represent as sub-publisher in France several prestigious foreign catalogues including Concord, CTM, Fuji Pacific, Bonatarda (Rosalia) and Big Deal, with the most recent addition being the Spandau Ballet back catalogue.

Because Éditions also represents a number of prestigious artists such as Jack Johnson in France, and celebrated its first Number 1 hit in the US with Fall Out Boy, as well as international success with Zara Larsson and The Weeknd. Published abroad by independent, pro-active and likeminded partners, Because currently boasts a network that enables it to create tremendous opportunities for its artists internationally, as well as synergies between its local catalogue and prolific international catalogues.

In 2010, Because Éditions teamed up with a group of investors to acquire Jeune Musique, a company set up by Claude François in 1967 and whose catalogue includes ground-breaking hits such as “Alexandrie Alexandra”, “Magnolias for Ever” and “Comme d’habitude”, as well as the co-publishing rights for the English-language adaptation of the global sensation, “My Way”.

In 2013, the same group of investors acquired the Cerrone publishing catalogue.

The latest acquisition is the Anteprima jazz catalogue (Manu Katché).

Because Éditions was awarded the 2018 Sacem Grand Prize for Music Publishing.
