Created in 2005 by Emmanuel de Buretel (ex-CEO of EMI Europe, Virgin Editions and founder of Delabel Editions) with Michel Duval (ex-CEO of Delabel Editions), in less than ten years Because Editions has become the leading independent publisher in France.
Thanks to a number of prestigious signings including Daft Punk, the Ed Banger catalogue (Justice, Sebastian, Breakbot), Sexion d’Assaut, Stromae, Selah Sue, Thomas Dutronc, NTM, Cerrone, Because Editions can boast a high quality domestic editorial catalogue which continues to expand each day with international artists (The Foals, Electric Guests, Django Django, Cody Chestnut, London Grammar, ….
The professionalism of its team, rich with more than twenty years of experience, has also enabled a number of sub-publishing deals, bringing with them many catalogues such as Imagem (Zomba, Rondor, Boosey and Hawkes, Phil Collins), Songs, Global Talent and more recently the Jamaican publisher Greensleeves. Because Editions also represents several prestigious acts such as Jack White or Jack Johnson in France and just had their first no 1 in America in 2015 with Fall Out Boy as well as great international success with Zara Larsson.
Because Editions is sub-published outside France by a very dynamic network of sub-publishers which enable to create many new opportunities, and benefits from the 360° synergies of the Because group, both in terms of artist development and in terms of maximizing its existing catalogues, both local and International
Because Editions, along with a group of investors, recently acquired Jeune Musique, created in 1967 by Claude François. The company’s catalogue notably includes standards such as Alexandrie Alexandra, Magnolias for Ever, or Comme d’habitude, plus the co-edition of the English adaptation of this song – the international hit ‘My Way’. The same group of investors acquired the catalogue of Cerrone in 2013.
